Commonly Asked Questions
Because all of our chapters are 100% volunteers, who raise funds in their local area and grant dreams to local children, each chapter has its own service area. The average service area is a 50-mile radius but this can vary by chapter. A child must reside, or in some cases be treated in, one of those areas to qualify for a dream. For a list of our chapters, please visit www.dreamfactoryinc.org/find-a-chapter.

- A child must be between the ages of 3-18;
- have a qualifying diagnosis that is chronic or critical in nature and is verified by a doctor;
- have not received a dream or wish prior;
- have a mental age of at least three;
- be able to communicate their dream (this does not have to be verbal);
- and reside, or in some cases be treated in, one of our service areas.
- Note: This list does not mean the child will qualify for a dream – this only means they meet the basic requirements. The final approval of each dream request is dependent on the local chapter board and considers many factors.
Typically, the first step is the online referral. If the family meets the basic requirements (see above) and the chapter feels confident that a dream is possible, then the full eight-page application will be sent to the family. This includes a Medical Authorization Form, which is to be completed by a doctor. Once the application is completed then volunteers with the chapter will meet the family either in person or virtually. After this meeting, the chapter will discuss the request and then vote for approval. If approved, then volunteers from the chapter will work with the family for dream fulfillment. The length of each of these steps is determined by the chapter and can vary. Keep in mind that each chapter meets once monthly.
Because we are all volunteers at the local level and chapter boards meet once monthly, and due to the situation created by COVID-19, the response from chapters vary. However, if you are in a time-sensitive situation, then find your chapter’s web page at www.dreamfactoryinc.org/find-a-chapter and contact the chapter by phone or email. You can also call National Headquarters at 502-561-3001 to help assist you.
Yes. We are granting numerous dreams, including travel dreams to Disneyworld and other locations. This is with the understanding that all safety measures are followed and that the child’s doctor medically clears the child for travel, among other considerations.
